The KW-22 was a vacuum tube device with about 300 tubes in the receiver and 400 in the transmitter. It was used with the AN/FGC-5 multiplexor which received four TTY Baudot channels and multiplexed them into one encrypted signal. The KW-22 was connected to the FGC-5 by an internal connection.
